So, what are you building this winter? If you have a project on the go, post it here. I am building a Balsa USA Phaeton 90. www.balsausa.com/kits/kit.htp?id=34&shopperid=Power will be 10S Lipo, Shulze fut-32.170 controller, and Xtra 30-10 Evo motor spining an APC 21 X 13WE prop. The power system is capable of 3500W, but this smaller prop should limit power to about 2500W (3.4HP). I expect about 17lbs thrust and ALW about 13 lbs. Old timers in the club may remember my old Phaeton 90 ,orange with black sunburst. Just for comparasin, it was 14.5lbs with a Supertiger 2000, about 2.5HP. The new plane will have much better vertical and land even slower than the old one. I'm really looking forward to flying it. Joe

Thanks Nicknitro
Jack, sounds like you're going to have fun this coming summer.
We should all make a point to bring new projects to the May meeting.

Joe , It will be fun if I can make it through the summer with my planes, but I'll try my best. I was thinking mabe you can bring that jig-saw of yours next meeting and I'll bring my bad bad crystal with servo + radio!? for some conversational piece. Oh ya, don't forget my batteries.

I am 95% finished building a YAK - 54 - profile. Plans call for a two stroke .46 but I have upgraded to O.S's new .55 two stroke. This engine uses the foot print of the O.S. .46 but with a larger head and bore producing more power. It is their AX version whatever that means. It is a nice looking engine and can swing a 12 X 7 or 13X 6 prop. I am going to start with the 13X6. (i.e. the same prop I use on one of my O.S. .61 two strokes. This is my fifth or sixth profile. I like profiles on non windy days and have been flying them on and off for probably 15 years. I purchased the Ohio RC kit from Jim Daly in the Spring. I made a few modifications, the biggest being the fuel tank. Instead of attaching it on the fuselage opposite the engine, I was able to hide it in the wing. Rather clever if I do mind saying so! I covered it in monokote employing rather unusual colour combinations. (I was attempting to use up some left over covering - not a good idea) Regardless, I think it came out "ok". Also, I have just finished putting an engine and radio gear in my one sixth size PICO Spitfire. I built this plane in 1996/97 and flew it in '97,'98, and '99 - a total of 106 flights. It has been under wraps in my basement hanger since then. A friend wanted to buy it and I thought I would see but when I got it out and had a look I could not part with it and hence it is now "good to go". Can hardly wait to fly it again this year. It is an excellent flyer! Also, for some reason I did something this winter that I have never done before. I disassembled all my fuel filters and actually cleaned them out. This does not sound too exciting of complicated and it is not. I just could not believe that I had never done this before. I ended up discarding two or three as they were not worth cleaning. Counting my new YAK, I have five planes ready to go. . . One last note - at this writing, I am assisting new member - Don Smith with the assembly of his new Graupner - Extra 300 ARF. (.61 size) I am very impressed with the quality of this kit at such an affordable price. I am sure it will be an excellent flyer. . . Cheers - John Mickle

Joe sounds like you have had a good idea here. I am one that remembers your old Phaeton... It was a great flying plane.
I'm going to try and make it out sometime this year to have look at this new bird of yours. Maybe you will have what it takes to get me back at it....... ;D.... But NO noise!
Mickle..Only 5 planes ready? What are you going to do in August?
It's nice to be able to check up on you guys from time to time. I have to tell ya, I have had an urge to build something...... Maybe next year.

Good to hear from you Brian. You are always welcome at the field. There is lots of time left, you could have something ready to fly for this summer.
Hey John, I haven't had a problem with my fuel filters for years! haha
Jack.. I will hunt around the garage and dig out the old jigsaw when it warms up a bit. I will put it with your batteries so I can bring it all (or forget everything). You know the memory is not the first thing to go with age. Joe

Nice to see that you read my message Brian. . . F.Y.I. - I keep meticulous records and according to my calculations (number of flights per crash divided by the square of flying time in minutes) my planes should last to 8:05 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3rd, 2007 and not July 31st. 2007 as you have suggested. . . so there!!! Cheers - John Mickle
